Backing for plans for 75-home Cumbrian housing estate

Seventy-five new homes could be built in Workington – if the developer agrees to fund a school extension.

Have your say

money talks again dont need any more houses just look at the ones that been up for sale the last few years and still are

What is councillor Harrington doing to improve road safety? For a long time this has been a major community issue. There is no mention on the outline plans whatsoever of any improvements. The houses are hardly affordable. A 10% plus deposit is still required by the banks for a mortgage. £15,000 for a £115,000 house. The "affordable" tag is simply a sweetner.

Cllr Harrington says Harrington needs more affordable housing which might be true but what does she class as affordable housing? Has she seen the sorts of prices Story Homes charge for their homes?

I wonder how much of a fight the town council would have put up if storys had wanted to use the entrance to the Whins Farm site from Kiln Green and Springfield Avenue. It seems very silly to add a new junction to the A597(was B5296)as it is already a dangerous and over populated road. How long before someone else is killed on this road?

I wonder how much fight the council would have put up if the proposed housing development near Whins farm had used the entrance from Kiln green and springfield avenue. The last thing the A597 (was B5296)needs is another junction.

As the Highway Authority's survey found vehicles to be travelling at nearly 40 mph in High Harrington what are they going to do about it.Signs are no good as you cant see them when your updating your facebook account and as for traffic islands all they do is bring heavy fast moving traffic even closer to the pavement and pedestrians.

Am I loosing the plot but, more houses on Main Road in High Harrington which vehicles will have to enter an exit on the main road is a bad idea. I walk and drive up and down most days, the traffic calming is likely to be a round about, which probably will be located just off the hump back bridge will have a blind access. Afford 84k or sing has it occured to anyone people cannot get mortgages whether affordable or not. Also the figures dont add up 84K or 400K we know what Stroey homes will say. As for a play park, as the people on Scaw Road housing they are still waiting in some cases 30 years and still no park.

Just what Beckstone School needs an extension!
7 extra pupils,i wonder who came up with the formula that worked that out.75 houses 2,3&4 bedroom?I would say double that figure at least and that will mean extra vehicles on Church Road at school times. The schools location and infrastructure is wrong and unsafe as it is.Hilary Harrington should be ashamed of herself. An accident waiting to happen.

Traffic speed is far too high on the main road at present. The 30mph limit is routinely ignored and traffic from lillyhall only really slows approaching the roundabout at the galloping horse. Could the 30mph limit be extended to the lakes college beyond charity road junction. Could measures such as speed cameras be introduced. Otherwise the junction to the new estate will be a death trap. Has this had any serious consideration. The 30mph limit into High Harrington is regularly flouted.
