Allowances should rise for Allerdale councillors says panel

Allerdale councillors could see their allowances rise by one per cent from April.

An independent panel has recommended that allowances for all members of the council are increased.

Councillors will consider the recommendation at a meeting on Wednesday.

If they approve the changes, each member would be entitled to a basic allowance of £2,996.32 for the year.

The leader would receive a special responsibility allowance of another £21,210, the deputy leader £10,072.60, and other members of the executive £5,495.83.

Committee chairmen would receive £2,747.92 on top of their basic allowance.

The leaders of minority political groups would be entitled to share between them the equivalent of the leader’s special responsibility allowance, allocate pro rata based on membership.

Councillors may forgo any part of their allowance entitlement.

The meeting will take place at Allerdale House in Workington on Wednesday at 7pm.

Have we reached saturation point with bars in the city?

No - the more the merrier. It helps to have choice

Yes - we could do with more specialist shops, not bars

As long as they are not all the same I don't mind how many there are
