A66 in Cumbria reopens after lorry sheds load

A major route through Cumbria was closed for several hours this morning after a lorry shed its load.

The A66 was shut in both directions at Penrith between the junction for the M6 and Kemplay Bank roundabout at around 3.30am while emergency services dealt with recovery.

The road was reopened shortly after 6am. Police confirmed the driver of the HGV was not hurt and no other vehicles were involved.
