Police are investigating two incidents - including attempts to set a gas canister on fire - which happened in an area of Carlisle.

Officers say the incidents happened in Denton Holme last month.

Most recently police were called to Holme Terrace about 2am on July 26 to an "explosion-type noise" after yobs attempted to set a gas canister on fire.

It followed on from an incident on July 15 about 3.50pm where paint was thrown over the footbridge over the river Caldew between Holme Terrace and Shaddongate.

PCSO Peter Murphy said: "We are aware of a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour in the Denton Holme area as well as an increase in vandalism.

"We are paying particular attention to this area as this effects the quality of life for residents.

"We are working closely with our partner agencies to curb this behaviour.

"If you have information on these incidents or notice suspicious behaviour please get in touch so we can investigate."
