A homeowner was attacked when he confronted yobs who had damaged his front door.
The elderly man was knocked to the ground with a punch to the face and sustained cuts to a hand.
Police say four youths are believed to have damaged the door before the man approached to ask what they were doing.
"He was physically assaulted with a punch to the face," say Cumbria police.
The attacker is described as about 15 years old, of slim build and about 5ft 8in tall. He was wearing a dark tracksuit top and blue jeans.
Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident - which took place on Chapel Street, Egremont, at about 3pm yesterday - to call them on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
