X Factor finalists Five After Midnight will headline this year's Carlisle Christmas Lights switch-on.

The three-piece - Nathan, Kieran and Jordan - say they cannot wait to add some seasonal sparkle to the city on Sunday, November 19.

They will head a line-up that will showcase local and international talent as the countdown to Christmas officially gets underway.

The band, who finished third in the TV talent contest last year, are signed to Simon Cowell's Syco. They are poised to to release four new tracks as part of new EP The Sauce.

They said: "We are super excited to be in Carlisle performing. We cannot wait to get up on that stage."

Five After Midnight will be joined by The Beatbox Collective - the reigning world beatbox champions - and Taken, Dublin's newest boyband who have recently toured the UK supporting acts including The Vamps and Union J.

It is hoped that the switch-on will attract a thousands-strong crowd who will kickstart the lucrative festive shopping season in the city.

The seasonal illuminations are staged by Carlisle City Council.

Anne Quilter, the councillor responsible for culture, heritage and leisure, said: "Preparations are well underway for our Christmas Lights Switch On.

"The event itself will also provide another boost to the economy and will draw thousands of people to the city centre."

An afternoon of entertainment will run from 2pm until 5.30pm.

It will also feature Stevie D’s Faith, The Lakes Choir - Stagecoach Performing Arts, Kira Tickner, Carlisle Dance Academy and Stanwix Primary School.

A stars of the future section will also see performances from singers Jack Rose, Nathan Grisdale, Joseph and Thomas Teago.

They will take to a stage in front of the Old Town Hall.

Mayor of Carlisle Trish Vasey will switch on the lights at 5.30pm.

The lights are part of a series of events and initiatives to boost trade in Carlisle, including free parking for late-night shopping, a Christmas market and a host of other attractions.
