Players formed a moving guard of honour as Tony Hopper made an emotional return to Workington Reds.

The former midfielder was guest of honour for the club's game against Stourbridge yesterday.

And his former club pulled out the stops to ensure he enjoyed a day to remember, notching up an important victory on and off the pitch.

Former teammates and fans rallied with a collection to help his mission to raise £10,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association after being diagnosed with the condition himself.

And you could see he was moved by the rapturous applause that rang out from all corners of the ground as he made his entrance.

A bucket collection during the game raised £633 which, added to the collection made at the Skelmersdale game, raised £1,108.

The charity mission is being supported by the News & Star's Fighting Back for Tony Campaign.
