A woman was left trapped when her car overturned on a major north Cumbrian route this morning.

The car, a black Renault Clio, was on its roof with the woman trapped inside.

Fire and rescue crews from Brampton and Carlisle were called to the scene on the A689 and managed to free her.

It happened at Brampton, near to the roundabout with the A69.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to the scene but the woman taken to hospital by land ambulance. She was not believed to have suffered any serious injuries.

Fire crews were at the scene for around 30 minutes, after being alerted just before 10am.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash or the moments leading up to it.
