Dancers from a West Cumbrian school are gearing up to fulfil their dream of performing on Broadway.

Cowper School Of Dance has been selected to open a show at the New York Town Hall Theatre on October 25.

The 35 dancers, aged 14 and over, will leave the UK on October 22 to prepare for the show, where they will perform six different routines.

In the meantime they have performed a preview at Workington's Carnegie Theatre last week, which was a sell-out success.

Adrienne Kelly, principal, said: "It was amazing, the girls really enjoyed it. It's so emotional to be performing on Broadway, it's a dream come true."

The girls will take the stage with a medley including Legally Blonde, One Night Only and 42nd Street.

Adrienne said: "I'm really excited, it's going to be a fantastic experience and the girls are really looking forward to it.

"It's something they will be able to put on their CV, not many people can say they performed on Broadway and it's something they will remember forever and always talk about in years to come."

The group is also looking forward to a big celebration after the performance.

All dance schools taking part in the show will get together to celebrate in a city restaurant.

Adrienne said: "It really is a fantastic opportunity for the dancers."
