A severe weather warning for snow and ice remains in place across much of the county today.
The yellow warning, issued by the Met Office and which covers most of Cumbria, will be in force until 6pm but a second warning for snow and ice , affecting the west of the county is valid until midday tomorrow.
The warning covering most areas today says between 2cm to 5cm of snow is likely in places over the warning area and some places could see up to 20cm.
"Icy surfaces are also likely to be an additional hazard," states the warning. "Impacts include possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers."
