This is the first peek inside a new bar and restaurant in Stanwix, Carlisle, that has been nine months in the making.

Ilka Rhoades and Alex Murrell have transformed the former Hourglass bar stripping back walls and creating new dining spaces with unique decor.

It is now known as Spider & Fly.

Mr Rhoades, who also runs the Thin White Duke on Devonshire Street in the city centre, said: "It takes its name from a Rolling Stones track called The Spider and the Fly."

The former toilets are now home to a new seating area which can accommodate 40 diners.

Complete with wooden chairs and tables, the area has patio doors which can be opened in summer.

Glazed white tiles, that were hidden, have been exposed and embellished black wall paper with gold leaf adorns part of a wall.

Diners and drinkers can also sit in the front part of the building - the main window has a great space to watch the world go by.

And between the two rooms is a small snug.

Upstairs are the four toilets - each with their own coloured front door giving the impression you are on an expensive street in London's Mayfair.

An Abbey Road NW8 street sign also adorns a wall upstairs.

Spider & Fly will be open five days a week - Wednesday until Sunday.

It will serve food from 12pm to 9pm on these days.

Bookings will be taken from Wednesday, October 11.

Mr Rhoades said: "We will be employing about 10 to 15 members of staff. They will be a separate team to the Thin White Duke.

"The menu will have a great choice of seasonally selected mains, including burgers, sandwiches, steaks and desserts.

"We had a night for our friends and family on Wednesday and last night was a ticketed invite only event.

"We will be open tonight for drinks and next Wednesday for food."

Ian Wightman is the head chef at the new bar at the top of Stanwix Bank.

He said: "You can expect to see healthy, modern and inexpensive dishes on the menu."

Beers on tap include: Estrella Damm, Blue Moon and Pravha.

Wines, cocktails and a range of spirits are also available.

Bosses hope to apply for planning permission for some outdoor tables on Scotland Road in due course.
