Police are appealing for information after a drone was flown over a school playground where children were out playing.

The small drone was spotted hovering over a Thomlinson Junior School in Wigton at about 12.45pm yesterday.

At times it was said to be as little as 2ft above the children's heads.

A police spokeswoman said: "There are regulations in place governing the use of drones in populated areas and clearly this kind of incident is unacceptable.

"It put both the children and adults present at risk of injury should the drone malfunction."

Officers are appealing for anyone with information that might identify the user of the drone to get in touch on 101.
