Emma Jane Moore, 39, who had family in Brampton, died in a fire in a flat in Dumfries town centre.
Emergency services were called to the fire on English Street at about 7.45pm on Monday. They rushed Emma to hospital but the 39-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival at Dumfries Infirmary.
Emma’s daughter, Danielle Gibson, wrote on Facebook: “Can’t believe you were taken away. I love you, my beautiful mum! Wish I had the time to make more memories with you.”
Another daughter, Jasmine Moore, posted: “I cannot believe the news I have received. Tonight my mum passed away in a house fire. To lose the woman who gave you life is heartbreaking. Rest in peace mum – your heart was kind!”
A joint police and fire and rescue service investigation is underway. A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fire are continuing.
“A report is being prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
