Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious two car crash near a town's fire station.

The collision, involving a red coloured VW Golf and a silver Nissan Almera, happened on Standalane, in Annan, at about 5.50am yesterday.

Three people in the Nissan Almera were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

The driver of the red VW Golf fled from the scene and is described as being in their early twenties, about 5ft 10ins tall and wearing grey clothing.

Constable James Tweedie, of Police Scotland, said: "We would like to hear from any witnesses who were at the scene when the collision happened or saw anyone running away from the scene.

"This was a fairly large impact and it may be the driver who ran off has some new injuries.

"Anyone with any information which might help should call us at Annan police station on 101."
