Prime Minister Theresa May has today made a surprise visit to Cumbria.
As part of the Conservative local election campaign Mrs May travelled to meet local representatives and candidates at a manufacturing site, in Ulverston, near Barrow.
Mrs May visited the factory of Oxley Group, who specialise in producing LED lighting. Over the years it has supplied some of the biggest companies in the world, including BAE, General Dynamics and Sikorsky.
South Lakeland residents will go to the polls on Thursday with every South Lakeland District councillor standing for re-election. A number of Carlisle City Council seats are also up for grabs.
This is the first local election since ward boundaries were redrawn in a radical shake up of the authority's wards.
