THE owner of a terrier had to prise open the jaws of a husky that was attacking his pet.

A court heard the man had to carry out the rescue after the husky grabbed the other dog in Main Street, Brampton.

Kelly Ann Williams, 36, appeared before the magistrates’ court in Carlisle, where she admitted being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control.

Williams, of Breconhill, Brampton, was given a fine and told the dog must be muzzled as well as kept on a lead when in a public place.

The attack happened on August 17 last year.

Williams had three husky dogs with her and they were left with a relative while she went into a shop.

The court was told that passing by was a family walking the terrier.

One of the husky dogs pulled on its lead away from its handler and attacked the terrier.

A man with the terrier grabbed the lead to get the husky away from the smaller dog and then performed the rescue.

The terrier was crying in pain.

Margaret Payne, representing Williams, told Deputy District Judge Joanne Hirst that Williams accepted it was her responsibility straight away and had paid the medical bills.

Passing sentence, the judge said there was injury caused to the small dog and a child at the scene was terrified. It also happened in a public place.

As well as the muzzling order, there was a fine imposed of £120.

Williams must also pay court costs and charges totaling £105.
