A YOUNG Dearham girl has raised £1,000 and donated 10 inches of her hair to a cancer charity.

Olivia Davison decided she wanted to “make another little girl happy” after learning about the work of the Princess Trust, which makes wigs from donated hair.

Olivia and her brother Lloyd, 6, began raising money for cancer research after a friend and colleague of their mother was diagnosed with cancer.

Through making and selling friendship bracelets they made £162 for Cancer Research and then £118 for Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

Hannah Davison said: “They heard me talking about my colleague, Lorraine Kirkbride from Whitehaven. She was diagnosed with cancer and has done an amazing job of fundraising for Cancer Research.”

She said Olivia and Lloyd met Lorraine who was undergoing chemotherapy and had lost her hair.

“Olivia wanted to know why, and we told her about the effects of chemotherapy and mentioned the Princess Trust.

“From that moment she was determined that she was going to grow her hair longer and have it cut. We researched the charity and found that the minimum donation was seven inches.

“Olivia grew her hair with an aim of donating eight inches but, in the end, did 10.”

Olivia said she was delighted with her new look and the fact that her hair had gone to help another little girl.
