Royal Mail is looking for casual members of staff to deal with the influx of letters and parcels in the festive period.

The postal service is looking for 50 people to work in the Carlisle Mail Centre on Junction Street.

The staff hired will be helping to unload mail from vans, move large volumes of mail around in trolleys, or sorting parcels and letters manually and with machines.

Chief operations officer of Royal Mail, Sue Whalley, said: “Christmas is our busiest time of year.

“We plan all year round to help ensure we deliver the best possible service for consumers and businesses in the UK at Christmas.

“We make a substantial commitment in additional resources including the recruitment of thousands of temporary workers to handle the festive mailbag and the growing market of online Christmas shopping.”

The recruitment drive in Carlisle is part of a larger initiative to bring up to 19,000 people into the business for the festive period which sees millions of cards and parcels processed a day.
