An electrical fault caused power cuts and power surges in Workington last night.
More than 650 homes and businesses were affected by the loss of power around 7.45pm.
Electricity North West confirmed this was due to a fault to an underground cable.
A spokesman said: "An underground cable fault caused the loss of power to 652 customers in Workington at 7.45pm last night. Our engineers were onsite within 15 minutes and repaired the fault and restored power to all customers at 9pm.
"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
