Detectives are investigating trouble at a junior boxing event in Cumbria involving firearms.

Officers were called to the event, held at the Lonsdale Cricket Ground, near Penrith, on Saturday, June 2.

They had received reports of disorder at the event and that firearms were potentially involved.

However, on arrival the alleged antagonists had left the area and no weapons were sighted.

A number of witnesses have reported seeing and hearing the incident with mentions made to police about men with firearms.

Two people, a man and a woman, who are believed to have been at the event were subsequently arrested and charged with possessing firearms.

Lancashire Police have launched a national appeal for information as people attended the competition from all over the UK.

It took place from June 1 to June 3.

The force is now trying to get in touch with any witnesses.

Detective Constable Rachel Elliott-Brierley, said: “I would appeal to anyone who attended this event and who can provide any information regarding the disorder to get in touch with us."
