An urgent appeal to help give a dying man his last wish has been met with an "incredibly overwhelming" response from kindhearted Cumbrians.

Wish for a Wedding was approached earlier today by Eden Valley Hospice to help pull together a wedding tomorrow for one of it's patients.

At such short notice the charity was calling on the local public to help out and donate a dress and two rings for the couple who will marry in a private ceremony at the hospice.

The groom has recently proposed but he is coming to the end of his life.

In a matter of hours the rings had been donated and numerous other offers made.

Zenith Brett, of Wish for a Wedding, said they had been inundated with offer of rings and dresses as well as cakes and flowers.

"The response has been incredibly overwhelming, it's wonderful to see so many local people offering to help," she said.

"I've passed the details of the dresses to the hospice, as they are coordinating everything from there.

"Jopsons Jewellers are donating the groom's ring tomorrow, they were very keen to help, but we have had multiple offers from other jewellers and a local lady offering to buy a ring herself."

Carlisle-based Jopson's Jewellers donated a brand new ring.

Sales assistant Abbie Turner said: "We were contacted by Wish for a Wedding.

"It's just one of those things that is so special.

"To know that someone can get their last wish, it's important to us. It's close to our hearts, to make sure everyone gets what they wish for."

Their marriage, at 6pm tomorrow, will be a very private affair with no guests.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Zentih via the Wish for a Wedding Facebook page.

She added: "He is going to die imminently. It's one last wish he wants, to marry his sweetheart.

"Why wouldn't we help.

"That is all she is going to have left to be married to the man she loves.

"It's such a difficult situation and if we could all just make that a little but easier for them its the least we could do."
