Meeting Olly Murs was a particularly special treat for a woman recovering from a heart transplant.

Katy Taylor-Hamilton, 20, of St Bees, is the singer's number one fan and played his music on repeat to help her after she had a heart transplant in January.

She had the chance to meet her hero face-to-face, have a chat with him and take some photos before he performed at Brunton Park in Carlisle on Saturday.

It was a moment Katy had been looking forward to for months, and Olly did not disappoint. She even asked if he would be her celebrity boyfriend, to which he of course said yes.

Katy's mum, Emma-Jane Taylor, said: “My dreams came true because I have never seen her so excited about anything ever. She kept telling me 'this is the best day of my life', 'all my dreams have come true'.”

Emma-Jane, 46, said Olly was very down to earth at the meet-and-greet and was lovely with Katy. He gave her and hug and a kiss and signed her CD and Olly-inspired phone case which she had made herself.

Katy, who has Down's Syndrome, had slight heart failure when she was 18-months-old as a result of the chemotherapy drugs she had taken to battle leukaemia.

At the end of last year her health deteriorated and she was put on the “active list” for a transplant in December because she urgently needed a transplant.

Emma-Jane said Olly's music was a massive part of Katy's recovery.

She said: “When Katy was very poorly in hospital, she played the Grow Up song over and over and over again to make her feel better.

“Olly said he'd be singing it later. He actually pointed and waved at her as he sang.”

Olly also sent Katy a get better soon message when she was recovering in hospital.

Emma-Jane said: “Katy is the biggest Olly Murs fan known to man. She's huge. She's been to every tour of his since he was on the X Factor.”

Although she had tickets to go see him perform in Newcastle in March, she unfortunately wasn't well enough to go. Her recovery since the heart surgery has been remarkable though. meaning she was well enough to attend Olly's concert on Saturday just 21 weeks after the transplant.

Emma-Jane said: “To get to where she is in that short time, she's done amazingly well. It really made me feel good that she's doing so well.”
