A Whitehaven musician is coming out of semi-retirement to perform at Cockermouth’s Northbound music event.

Gareth Ferguson, of Parton, is preparing to take to the stage for a solo acoustic set on Saturday.

He will be joining a long line-up of acts set to perform at the free street party.

Guitarist Gareth has previously performed at a host of events including CockRock and numerous venues in the area.

He described his return to music as “a fresh start”.

Gareth has also recorded an EP, which is due to come out later this year.

He recorded the tracks in the studio of Steve Harper.

“It’s a bit of a surreal experience,” he said.

He says he takes his inspiration for songwriting from everything.

“I can be just playing about and something will come about. Sometimes it can be months. It just depends,” he added.

Gareth said he is looking forward to performing to the crowds at Northbound.

The event returns to Main Street, Cockermouth, following a successful roll-out last summer.

Allerdale Borough Council has supported bringing the event to the town and it is being organised by CN Events.
