A man has died after collapsing while out walking in one of the Lake District's fells.
Coniston Mountain rescue were called to the Old Man of Coniston on Thursday at around 9.20am to reports a man had collapsed on the main path through the disused slate quarries.
Due to the serious nature of the incident a crew from the Great North Air Ambulance Service also assisted.
Despite swift action being taken, the man could not be saved.
In a statement issued by Coniston Mountain rescue yesterday, they said their "thoughts and prayers were with the gentleman's family at this sad time."
The rescue team dispatched 11 crew members to the scene for the operation which lasted around three hours.
