A FACTORY worker raped a young woman following an evening out in a Carlisle pub, a jury has been told.

Wayne Hilton, 40, of Maryport, has gone on trial at Carlisle Crown Court accused of raping the woman in the early hours of March 1 last year.

The woman had been drinking in a Harraby pub the night before the alleged rape took place, and after the celebrations had finished she went back to a friend’s house.

It was there that the rape took place, prosecutor Tim Evans told the court.

“She says she was taken advantage of when she was drunk, that he was having sex with her when she was asleep,” said Mr Evans.

“He says she initiated the sex, she wasn’t that drunk, and knew fine well what she was doing.”

Mr Evans later said that the victim had been assessed by a doctor who found some injuries.

Giving evidence in court, the victim told the jury she woke up when she “found out what Wayne was doing”.

She later said that the incident was “horrible” and she told Hilton to stop before trying to push him off.

The court heard that Hilton, of Ewanrigg Road, Maryport, was staying at an address in Carlisle at the time of the incident.

He denies a charge of rape.

The trial continues.
