The letters, written but never sent, were noted down on lined paper, occasionally featuring hearts drawn heavily at the top.

In them, Thomson writes: “You are the most beautiful lass I have ever met in my life and I just wish that you would give me a chance but I know it is not going to happen so you might as well go back out with Jordan....

“I really do love you and I would do anything for you. I would die to keep you safe and I would kill for you because I would fight and defend for you cos you are the love of my life.”

He goes on to say: “I am sorry for what I am about to say but I am in hospital or dead.

“If you look up I am there looking over you cos you were the best thing to happen to me cos when I say I love you I do mean it cos when you said yes I was the happiest person alive but when you finished it after two days it killed me inside cos two days isn’t a chance but I still love you to death cos you are the only person that made me feel like this and I mean it but I can’t live without you.”

In court, Thomson repeatedly denied he was infatuated with the girl at the time of Jordan’s murder.

In the letters, he wrote: “I am writing to you to tell you my feelings for you because I think you don’t believe me but I am telling you that I really do love you and I would die 100 times for you and I would kill anyone for you and I would walk around the world for you and I would defend you until my last breath leaves my body because you are the love of my life and you always will be and if you give me a chance I would never leave you...cos you would be my princess. Love you to death.”

Thomson ends a letter: “Goodbye my love. Just remember all the good times because I will. Love you till I die.”
