A popular obstacle event which has attracted thousands of competitors since it started and helped raise vital funds for charities has been put up for sale.

Mike James, creator of Gelt Gladiator, is retiring from the event he started in 2015, due to personal reasons.

With less than 50 days before this year's installment of the event which takes place near Brampton, Mr James announced the news on Facebook.

He said in a statement: "Due to personal reasons, and after many months of consideration. my event that has attracted 9,000 people over four years, Gelt Gladiator, is now up for sale.

"GG on June 9 and 10 will be my final year with a new owner taking the event forward for 2019 and beyond.

"I am extremely proud to have staged a great local event that has created thousands of happy memories for adults and children alike and the event has raised tens of thousands of pounds for local and national charities."

He said the sale was an opportunity for someone new to take the event to the next level.
