A youth programme for children and young people with learning disabilities has free places on its theatre programme.

The sessions will take place during the Easter and Summer holidays, thanks to funding from Children in Need and Carlisle City Council.

Prism Arts has provided successful Youth Theatre Summer Schools for the past three years.

This year, thanks to funding from Children in Need, they are able to extend the popular summer school over the Easter holidays and Saturday mornings.

Sessions start on April 11 and end on August 26.

Previous Summer School programmes have proven very successful, with the groups creating and delivering wonderful productions, while learning and working together as a group.

The sessions will be led by a team of experienced professional theatre practitioners to ensure that the members work in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

A spokeswoman for Prism Arts said: "The youth theatre programme will give participants an opportunity to learn the skills to develop and perform a theatre production.

"They will work closely with professional theatre practitioners to create a story which they will then perform.

"Their production will be performed as part of the impressive Carlisle Puppet Pageant on August 26."

Prism Arts will be running two short introductory sessions on Saturday, March 18 from 10am to 11am and 11.30am to 12.30pm.

The youth theatre programme is limited to 12 people with learning disabilities aged between 10 and 19-years-old.
