The boss behind Carlisle’s newest nightclub say 5,000 people have visited it since it opened.

Kevin Spencer says the response to Mint on Botchergate has been “amazing” since launch night on July 22.

And this weekend he hopes to get thousands more through the doors when the club welcomes DJ Jack Shizzle from the BCM Planet Dance nightclub in Mallorca.

He will get the party started on Sunday night along with some of Mint’s resident DJs on what is traditionally one of the busiest weekends of the summer.

Mr Spencer, said: “We have had 5,000 people through the doors since we opened, which is an amazing response.

“We are looking at getting about 4,000 people through the door this bank holiday weekend.”

The club is in a building which had been derelict since 2008. It was the former premises of the once-iconic nightspot Mood.

A rooftop terrace, overlooking Collier Lane and the back of the Vue Cinema, has been finished and is now open.

Mr Spencer said: “We’ve had great feedback with the lighting of the club, the atmosphere and the DJs.

“We had some other feedback regarding the pricing of our drinks which people thought were a little too expensive and not in line with some of the bars on Botchergate, so we have reduced these to be in line with other bars.

“We’ve also bought some more tables as there weren’t enough.”

The club, which specialises in Mojito cocktails using fresh fruit, has branches in Bradford and Wakefield in Yorkshire.

It employs about 30 people but is still on the look out for some staff.

Mint opens on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, from 10.30pm to 4.30am.

Mood was once one of Carlisle’s most popular nightclubs, with large queues regularly snaking along Botchergate on weekends as people waited to get inside.
