Cumbria Fire and Rescue were called at 1.45pm today to a chip pan fire at Lakeland View, Workington.
The owner of the home, who is an elderly lady, was taken to hospital following the incident.
She was not hurt in the fire, but was taken to hospital as she felt unwell.
A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 14:06 and an elderly woman was taken to hospital.
"She felt unwell and was taken to West Cumberland Hospital."
Two fire engines from Workington Fire Station tackled the blaze, which took an hour and a half to put out.
The kitchen of the home is damaged beyond repair, and the whole of the house has been damaged by smoke.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service would like to remind people of the dangers of using chip pans, and would advise against using them.
