Top Cumbrian performers are uniting to help raise vital funds for a much-loved animal rescue centre.

The like of Astral Circus, folk band Chasing Springtime, musicians The Covers and local comedy singing sensation Dicky Dippinson will be coming together to create a showbiz extravaganza to raise money for Oak Tree Animals’ Charity, based at Wetheral, near Carlisle.

They're all coming together for the charity's Autumn Ball on October 14.

The event is the first of its kind for Oak Tree and will be held at the Hallmark Hotel in Warwick Road, Carlisle, who the charity says has been very accommodating with requests for fire-eating and giant balls in their venue.

Local comedian Dicky Dippinson, also known as the Fresh Prince of Shap, said: “Az lookin forrerd ter playin et yon charity do for animal welfare spot.

"That there Oak Tree it's grand wat they dyer fot animals wat need a laal bit o help.

"It shud be a grand ol neet that's fer shewer."

Holly Parkinson, from Oak Tree, said, “Cumbria has a wealth of talent and we are excited to be able to bring these hugely talented local performers together to create an evening of fun at the Hallmark.

"We are also grateful for the support of our corporate partners who have provided such a fabulous array of auction lots for the evening including a flight across Cumbria, dining experiences and pampering sessions to name but a few."

The charity was founded in 1909 originally becoming a haven for pit ponies and other working horses. Since then it has grown to provide a home for horses, goats, sheep and cattle.

It’s also a place of refuge for stray, abandoned or unwanted dogs and cats who are awaiting new homes through their adoption programme.

Every year Oak Tree takes in hundreds of lost or unwanted animals and tries to find a new home for them.

It must raise thousands of pounds annually to help keep it afloat and events like the Autumn Ball are vital in allowing them carry on their good work.

They have representatives who speak to schools, community groups and colleges about animal welfare and offers advice on working with animals.

* Tickets for the event, which include a three course meal, are priced £42 and available from Oak Tree. To contact them email fundraising@oaktreeanimals.org.uk or call 01228 560082.
