Three pumps from north Cumbria have been tackling a hay fire in Carlisle this evening.

David Burn, crew manager at Carlisle West fire station said that firefighters were called to the scene, on farmland near Tesco's Rosehill superstore, at around 7pm.

He said: "We had three pumps - two from Carlisle and one from Brampton.

"The smoke was affecting the car park and some of it was getting into the store's air conditioning."

Mr Burn said that the hay is still smouldering and will be checked by crews throughout the night.

No-one was injured as a result of the blaze.
