Cranstons' Brampton store has sold the equivalent of six miles of Cumberland Sausage in its first six months of operation - and hopes to make it 13 by the end of the year.

This would be enough of the popular dish to stretch the meat treat all the way to the firm's first shop in Kirkoswald.

The store, which is on Front Street in the former HSBC bank site, has also sold more than 25,000 pies and welcomed its 75,000th customer.

The food hall sells locally-sourced beef, pork and lamb, plus produce such as jams, chutneys and preserves, freshly-baked bread, locally-brewed ales, and wines.

It also feature as hot takeaway counter and a pick-and-mix salad bar.

Manager Mark Mallinson said: "The new food hall has gone from strength to strength and we’ve received lots of positive feedback from both new customers and those that used to shop with us when we had the smaller shop over the road.

"We were surprised to learn of the amount of pies and Cumberland sausage we’ve sold this year already - no wonder we’ve been busy."

Managing director Philip Cranston added: "We are passionate about championing quality local produce and are pleased that the food hall concept has been so well-received in the town, bringing customers an expanded range of products as well as our much-loved meat lines.

"Mark and his team have done an excellent job of providing excellent customer service and making the new food hall a success."

Cranstons, originally a traditional butcher founded in Kirkoswald more than 100 years ago, diversified by opening a food hall in Ullswater Road, Penrith, in 2003 offering a wider range of local produce alongside meat.

A second food hall at Orton Grange, on the A595 near Carlisle, followed in 2013 and the venture in Brampton is the third of this type.
