Cameras at a Cumbrian hospital do not require planning permission, a council investigation has revealed.

Copeland Council was investigating concerns regarding the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, where cameras have been installed in the car park.

But North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, believed it had followed the correct procedures.

And the trust now says the council investigation has supported its view that the cameras, which are for security purposes rather than car parking enforcement, do not require planning permission.

Parking at the hospital has been managed by UK Parking Controls since the beginning of last month, with the company patrolling the site 24/7 and enforcing penalty charges.
