Carlisle is getting ready to party.....

The Royal Wedding of the Year is looming and when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot the people of Carlisle are set to join the celebrations.

Cumbria Downs Syndrome Support Group is busy organising a party in Bitts Park.

It will take place on Saturday, May 19 - the same day as the wedding - between 10am and 4pm.

The event will have a garden party theme and those attending are encouraged to bring a picnic and blanket.

An ice cream van will attend too.

The residents of the new Story Homes Crindledyke estate are also getting ready to party.

A party will be held on Charlton Way at 3pm on May 19.

Residents held a party in 2016 to mark the Queen's 90th birthday party.

Carlisle City Council has not yet received any applications from people intending to host a street party.

Meanwhile, pub licensing hours can be extended over a "celebration period" to mark an occasion of exceptional international, national or local significance.

Hours will be extended to 1am, instead of the usual 11pm, on the nights of Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19 without pubs having to apply for an extension.
