Carlisle construction firm boss Adam Pate is stepping in to help an old friend raise £100,000.

Adam and his wife Ali are organising a black-tie charity promises auction, taking place at Netherby Hall, Longtown next month.

The couple, who have two young daughters, are helping Adam's old friend Richard Dyer, who runs ticket company Skiddle.

The company is aiming to raise £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The appeal was originally launched as a way of supporting Skiddle employee Chris Glaba after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Sadly he lost his 10-month battle with the disease in December.

Ali, 30, of Newtown Road, said: "They're up to £77,000 and so we're wanting to help them get to the £100,000 target.

"Adam and Richard are close friends. They both used to live in Grinsdale and grew up together.

"Now Richard is based in Preston with his company and Adam has Croft View Construction."

She continued: "We wanted to do something to help. We've just been down to see him recently and we came up with the idea."

Croft View Construction's promises auction will be held on April 22.

A professional auctioneer is being recruited to lead the evening which has already secured a series of impressive lots.

They include a new bathroom with a four-piece suite donated by Travis Perkins and tiling carried out by Croft View Construction.

A meal and money to spend in Fantails restaurant in Wetheral is also up for grabs, as is a series of children's swimming lessons, items from both Jopsons Jewellers and Beadle & Hill, and a photoshoot.

A raffle is also being organised to help boost fundraising efforts.

Tickets are on sale now, priced at £20 each. The price includes canapes and drinks on arrival.
