A Carlisle arts charity has raised thousands of pounds after taking on a mammoth 30-hour drawing challenge.

Prism Arts' draw-a-thon raised more than £7,000 in six weeks to mark its 30th birthday.

The money will ensure its Studio Theatre group can go on tour with their new production Shadow Tales.

In 30 hours the team created more than 60 metres of drawings and clocked-up over 360 hours of volunteered time, inviting the public to take part in the challenge at The Old Fire Station.

Pamela Pottinger, who got involved and also ran a raffle to raise extra cash, said: “When I found out about the fundraiser I was immediately caught up in the idea and was eager to help.

"Everyone should have the chance to unlock their potential and to feel the utter joy of achievement. It’s a human right.

"Now, I’m looking forward to seeing this wonderful project come to full fruition as it begins to tour. I can't wait."

The charity runs inclusive arts projects across Cumbria. Studio Theatre is an integrated group where adults with learning disabilities and experienced theatre practitioners work in partnership.

During the campaign more than 80 donations were made including a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

In return for donations Prism Arts gifted rewards including hand-printed tote bags, personal thank you videos and portrait commissions.

Prism Arts' director Catherine Coulthard said: “It is wonderful how the crowdfunder has really helped capture people’s imagination, we are very grateful to everyone who has supported it.

"We couldn’t have don’t it without all the wonderful people who pledged, supported our events and helped us spread the word. Their support really is the best birthday present Prism Arts could have hoped for."

Shadow Tales goes on tour in November and December. For more information visit www.prismarts.org.uk.
