Businesses from across Cumbria and the north of England have got behind one woman's cross-country run.

Sports companies Chivers Sports Carlisle and New Balance have already backed News & Star news editor Emily Parsons, and now other businesses are coming forward to offer accommodation.

Emily, 32, is running from St Bees to Newcastle - averaging more than a marathon a day - in six days... before taking on the Great North Run on day seven.

Her challenge is in aid of the Brain Tumour Charity, following the diagnosis of a close friend, Rachel Cole, with a terminal brain tumour.

Emily is asking places at key stops along her route to put her and her support team up and has already had a response.

The owners of Nelson Barn, a luxury self-catering barn in Kirkby Stephen with four bedrooms, has agreed to give Emily sole use of the barn on the third night of her run.

Katie Mundy, from Nelson Barn, explained: “I can't possibly imagine how Rachel, her family, Emily and her close friends and colleagues are feeling but I know what it's like when terminal illness strikes the ones we love most and how helpless it can make you feel.

“I know I treasure my friends who are my family and am thankful everyday for the love and support we give to each other. Having your health and friends to me are the most valuable things in life.

“I know I could never run a marathon but I can lend a hand to help Emily support her dear friend and her family. I think what she is doing is amazing and it touched my heart.”

And, while Katie was first, she was quickly followed by Andrew Marshall, of The Manor House Pub, Food and Rooms, in Ferryhill.

He has donated a triple room in the 16th-century listed building for the Friday night, and is even looking at hosting his own fundraiser to help boost Emily's target.

Andrew said: “Touched by the brave fundraising efforts Emily is going to in support of her friend Rachel, Gareth, myself and all at the Manor in Ferryhill will be delighted to welcome her.

“We absolutely can't imagine or begin to understand the challenges Rachel and Emily are facing, but are humbled by the strength shown.

“Along with our regular customers we look forward to welcoming her and supporting her in her fundraising efforts: we hope to make it a night to remember."

She is still looking for accommodation in Borrowdale, the Burn Banks area, Richmond and Newcastle.

Emily also still urgently requires the use of a camper van, as a support vehicle, for the week.
