Dozens of staff, students and teams have been shortlisted for an award recognising their unsung work.

In total, 51 people or groups are in the running for the University of Cumbria Students’ Union (UCSU) Success Awards 2017.

This annual event highlights the unrecognised work which goes on every day within the university.

Among those to be listed are Harriet Davies, who signed up to be a student academic representative on her adult nursing course, and Jacqui Percival, who offers academic, professional and emotional support for her students.

The Success Awards are hosted annually by UCSU and are designed to showcase best practice and outstanding contributions. Categories include Volunteer of the Year, Lecturer of the Year and Student of the Year.

Daniel Prescott, UCSU chief executive, said: “The UCSU Success Awards are the highlight of the year and underscore the importance of students and staff working together to recognise those that make a real difference to the whole community of learners here at the University of Cumbria.

“It’s also a rare and valued opportunity for nominees, guests and supporters from across our geographically dispersed campuses to get together, celebrate outstanding achievement and enjoy a prestigious shared event.”

All of those shortlisted are invited to a glittering awards ceremony celebrating the achievements of staff and students.

The ceremony will be compered by Bethany Cutter, UCSU community and partnership officer and Volunteer of the Year 2016.

Bethany said: “Winning this award meant so much to me, as it shows the efforts and activities of all volunteers at University of Cumbria are being recognised and appreciated.”

The shortlist for the 2017 awards has now been released and celebrates not just individuals, but teams who contribute to the student experience.

The Carlisle reception team, Brampton Road campus estates team and the Fusehill Street Calva Bar staff have all been shortlisted, acknowledging their hard work.

The Success Awards will take place on Thursday, March 30 at the Shap Wells Hotel, when the winners will be announced.
