A CHARITY rugby day fixture has raised £5,000 in aid of The Sadie Reed Foundation.
Maryport Amateur Rugby League Football Club (ARLFC) hosted its first charity day fixture, gathering support from more than 300 attendees.
The total amount raised was £4,904.06, with the club rounding it up to a final donation of £5,000.
Funds were raised through t-shirt sales, football cards, donations, a raffle, gate money, and a match fee generously donated by referee Trevor Dryden.
The Sadie Reed Foundation was set up by the family of 14-year-old Sadie Reed, from Maryport, who died in February last year.
The foundation is an organisation which will aim to spread awareness and reduce the stigma around mental health, encouraging people to talk with the help of a friendly face and safe space, and lessen the financial burden of events that teenagers are likely to face throughout school.
In a statement on social media, Maryport ARLFC said: "Thank you to everyone who has helped make this success and to help raise a lot of money for a fantastic charity"
More than 120 t-shirts were sold, with a portion of each sale contributing to the total. An auction of donated shirts raised an additional £300.
The club extended thanks to sponsors including Maryport Born & Bread, Maryport ARLFC Youth Rugby, MJL Pro Solutions Ltd, Alaina’s Angels, Stan Palmer Cockermouth, G Care, West Cumbria EPC, Ignite Plumbing & Heating, The Rusty Crab, Gold Scaffolding, AA Electrical, and Neil Talbot Joinery.
Special thanks were also given to Jordan at Unrivaled Sportswear for supplying and donating shirts to be auctioned.
