A COUPLE from Wigton have won free return flights to Cyprus - after they were declared the 50 millionth passengers to fly with easyJet out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Ellie Jeffrey, 26, and Finn Graham, 23, were gifted free easyJet return flights to Larnaca to celebrate the milestone.

The airline says it offers more seats from Liverpool than any other airline and has been operating to and from the airport since October 27, 1997, with its first flights to Geneva, Amsterdam and Nice.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager said: “We are so proud to be in Liverpool marking a key milestone as we celebrate flying 50 million passengers to and from the airport.

"Our first flights from the airport took off for the first time over 25 years ago and since then we’ve been committed to Liverpool in providing great value fares and convenient connections for our customers from across the North West they’re travelling for business or leisure."

Paul Winfield, aviation director for Liverpool John Lennon Airport added: "To welcome easyJet’s 50 millionth passenger is a major milestone for the airport and we’re naturally very proud that so many easyJet passengers have chosen to use Liverpool over the years, helping us to become a key airport for the UK and as a gateway for the North West and North Wales."
