A GROUP of sausage dog owners have come together in order to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAAS).

15 sausage dogs and their brave owners are descended on Applegarth ‘Sniffari’ near Warwick Bridge to meet up and raise more than £100 for GNAAS.

The dogs were met by organiser, Rachel Vickers, Sniffari owner, Judith Nicholson and Krysia from The Creative Canine came along to discuss scent work training for the little hounds.

Organiser, Rachel Vickers said that the event was a ‘great success’.

“It was such a nice day,” said Rachel.

“The dos all behaved themselves, which was surprising - I wasn't expecting them to but they had a great time together.

“We had about 18 booked and I think 15 turned up in the end which was a great turnout.

“The owners just came and chatted really and a lot of people whose dogs got on with other dogs have kind of planned to meet up again which is really nice.”

The sniffari is designed for dogs in training, people who can't walk their dog long distances, nervous owners, dogs with poor recall and to help dogs get used to livestock.

Due to the size of the sniffari, only a limited number of dogs and their owners were able to meet up at the sniffari but organiser, Rachel said that plans were already underway for another charity sausage dog event.

“We’d definitely like to do another meet up sometime soon so watch this space.”

GNAAS is a charity which supports the emergency services across Cumbria and the north of England.
