A Carlisle student has gained a place to study musical theatre at a prestigious conservatoire in London.

Nathan Yielder is set to move to Greenwich, London in September in order to take up a place at Trinity Laban School of Music and Drama.

Nathan began his journey to the stage from the age of seven when he joined Carlisle’s award-winning youth theatre group, StagedRight.

“StagedRight is technically an amateur company, but it's very much professional in everything they do,” said Nathan.

“David McNeill (StagedRight director) does great things and makes it is so professional and shows like Les Mis and Phantom of the Opera were taken to a new level.

“Being a part of that gave me a really good insight into what I was wanting to get myself into, because it was so professionally done, and David doesn't allow for any slacking.”

Nathan will study at Trinity Laban for three years and says that his dream is to become a leading man on the West End.

“I might even possibly even develop on that but that's the first goal anyway - we've all got those ambitions and hopefully I get close.”

Moving to London will represent a big change for Nathan who has lived in Carlisle all of his life.

“I've been down a few times to London with family to see shows, and I've always been intrigued by London,” said Nathan.

“I just think it's a completely different because I live in Carlisle and it's obviously quite a small place.

“Everyone knows each other here, but London is so big and just completely different to Carlisle.

“I think I'm just going to be so intrigued as to how I get on living in London and to somewhere completely different to where I'm used to.”

StageRight’s next generation of talent is already coming through and tickets are available for their July production of Barnum.
