TRIBUTES have been paid to a 'stalwart' of rugby league in Cumbria and a keen photographer following her passing.

Cumbrian rugby league has paid tribute to Lorraine Degraff who passed away yesterday, April 24.

Lorraine was a 'huge part' of Maryport ARLFC as well as secretary for Cumbria Amateur Rugby League, she was also well known as an avid photographer in Cumbria part of many photography groups in the area.

Maryport ARLFC said: "Yesterday we lost a true Legend of Maryport ARLFC. All at the club are extremely saddened by the loss of Lorraine Degraff.

"Lorraine has been a huge part of the club for over 40 years. She has volunteered her time in a vast array of roles and became the first woman to win the coveted, Clubman Of The Year Award.

"She is part of the fabric for where the club is today. She has been a stalwart of the Maryport ARLFC and Cumberland Rugby League as a whole.

"After taking over the role as CARLA Secretary, she transformed the way things were done. Bringing in fresh ideas and a more organised approach. Always available to help in any way she could, each time, going above and beyond what she needed to.

"Lorraine was also an exceptional photographer. She was always on hand whenever we asked her take photos for us, nothing was ever a problem and her Northern Lights photos have been seen far and wide, impressing all who have seen them.

"Our thoughts and sympathies go out to Frankie, Darren, Ellie and the whole family at this sad time.

"Lorraine will be deeply missed by us all."

Cumbria Amateur Rugby League Association, said: "It’s with great sadness and a heavy heart that we inform you all of the passing of our CARLA secretary Lorraine DeGraff who passed away yesterday surrounded by her loving family

"Lorraine was a long serving stalwart of the Maryport club before becoming the Secretary of CARL a job that she has done with great distinction for a number of years

"Always on hand to assist our member clubs, she put her heart and soul into keeping the flag flying for amateur rugby league both in West Cumbria and beyond

"Outside of her love of rugby league she was a fantastic photographer capturing many amazing images that she loved to share most recently capturing stunning photos of the northern lights

"Above all she was a fantastic friend to so many of us and a wonderful family woman, a family meant everything to her

"Our condolences go out to her husband Frankie, Son Darren, Daughter Ellie and all of her extended family on her loss

"Words really can’t express how much we’re going to miss Lorraine nor do justice to the impact she had on CARLA but her legacy will live on and we will make sure she’s never forgotten

"All CARLA games and BARLA National cup games this weekend will be preceded by a minutes silence in tribute to Lorraine. Rest in peace Lorraine."
