A Cumbrian nursery's Easter event has raised more than £3000 for charity.

In late March children from Abacus Day Nursery in Dalston completed various obstacle courses in homemade bunny ears to raise money for their neighbouring charity, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.

Despite being planned as a trial fundraiser, donations skyrocketed as proud parents and family friends continued to contribute online.

And now, their fundraiser has officially ended, reaching an incredible total of £3,293.88.

Hospice at Home said: "We are really honoured by the support that the staff, children and their families from Abacus Nursey have shown to Hospice at Home. Being a trial event we were blown over by its success. We are super excited to launch the Bunny Hop and our upcoming Reindeer Run to more schools in the area. If any school or nursey would like to register interest please search for the Bunny Hop or the Reindeer Run on our events listing page www.hospiceathome.co.uk/events.”

Abacus Day Nursery commented: "Abacus Children’s Day Nursery have raised an amazing total of £3293.88 for Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland. We are so proud of all our children, staff, families, and friends for all of those generous donations when completing our sponsored Bunny Hop.

"Miss Sam (Nursery Manager) says this is an amazing amount of money that we have raised for Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland is an extremely important contribution, as this will support and provide a lifeline to families throughout our community."
