A MARYPORT cheerleading squad have returned home as World Champions - with residents lining the streets to welcome home their towns stars.

The Cheer Force Knights returned home on Tuesday, April 23 Allstar World Championship in Florida this week after being crowned 2024 World Champions.

Their return to Maryport saw people line the streets close to their base on Glasson Industrial Estate with people cheering, blowing whistles and clapping as the team arrived home from Florida.

And it's not the first time either, the Cheer Force Knights are now two time world champions having won the competition in 2023 as well.

Hundreds of people across social media have taken the chance to congratulate the team who are quickly becoming the pride of the town.

Mayor of Maryport, Linda Radcliffe said: "I think they are amazing and to win something as prestigious as this twice is absolutely wonderful, it just shows the commitment that they have both to what they are doing and the people who support them. I couldn't be happier for them."

Lilly Douglas, 18, from Maryport is part of the Lady Supremacy squad and one of the oldest members of the Cheer Force Knights.

The Netherhall School pupil has said she has 'lived her best life' for the last 11 days competing in the squad and being crowned as a world champion.

She said: "I have lived my best life for 11 days and can only thank my coaches for giving me the opportunity for the best experience of my life so far, bringing a World Champion medal back to Maryport makes me so proud.

"We worked hard to achieve this, alongside the intense training I have been studying for my A levels next month, working, and coaching Cheer Force Knights younger teams. Anything is possibly, follow your dreams. "
