A CUMBRIAN village has recorded its wettest April on record, along with several other places across the UK.

Shap, between Penrith and Kendal, has recorded 194mm of rainfall throughout the month of April - making it the wettest April ever on record.

It joins several other towns across the UK which have also recorded their wettest Aprils, with more than a week of the month still to go.

Some of these include Morecambe, Salsburgh and Glasgow Bishopton.

Despite the very wet month so far, Shap should stay fairly dry this weekend, with the Met Office predicting that despite clouds, rain is not on the cards for the village throughout this weekend.

This is in keeping with Cumbria as a whole, with the county looking to get some good weather over the weekend and into next week.
