The Liberal Democrat candidate for Penrith & Solway, Julia Aglionby, has planned a community meeting to address local concerns ahead of the general election later this year.

The event will be held at Langwathby Village Hall on April 24 at 7.30pm.

The meeting promises the residents an opportunity to engage directly with Julia Aglionby and discuss matters of concern.

A platform to participate in the campaign will also be provided, in addition to refreshments for those in attendance.

The areas springing from Alston to Silloth, inclusive of Penrith, Keswick, Cockermouth, Maryport, and Dalston will now fall under the jurisdiction of Penrith & Solway, as Langwathby and its neighbouring regions transition from their previous alignment with Penrith & the Border.

A highlight of the scheduled community meeting aligns with the upcoming elections for Police, Fire, and Crime Commissioner.

The spotlight is on the Liberal Democrats as they campaign against the prevailing government's perceived oversight on prominent issues such as rural crime and violence against women and girls.

Adrian Waite, former finance director for Copeland Borough Council and serving town councillor in Kirkby Stephen, is the chosen candidate for the Liberal Democrats in this election.

In recent times, Aglionby has successfully held a series of community meetings at different locations across the constituency, including Cockermouth, Lazonby, and Penrith, which have encountered good attendance.

The meetings observed proactive discussions spanning from the Israel/Gaza conflict to the forthcoming landline switch-off and the Penrith Pong.

Beyond her professional life, she made significant contributions as a founding member of Penrith & Eden Refugee Network, a director of Cumbria Rural Enterprise Agency, and a trustee of a Care Farm employing seven individuals.
