TODAY we wanted to take a look at what has been going on in Wetheral over the years.

The village sits on the edge of the River Eden near Carlisle.

The majority of the houses are grouped together around the village green which is dominated by the brick built Eden Bank, which dates back to 1834.

The Wetheral Cross, which originally stood in the middle of the green, now stands in the corner.

On the other side of the River Eden is Corby Castle, a late Georgian mansion. The castle has a 14th century pele tower built in as a defence against against Border reivers.

These photos show what has happened in Wetheral over the years. We can see the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, a Stone Roses fan from Wetheral meeting singer Ian Brown when he visited Carlisle, the opening of a new play area, and children at a stall during a village hall fundraiser.
