A public consultation is underway regarding plans to spend £70,000 developing a play area.

Proposed improvements for the Parkland Village play area in the southeast of Carlisle include new equipment and surfacing, as well as an upgrade to either the rebound or football goals.

It’s currently sited on a large green space within a residential area and has a football/basketball rebound wall on a tarmac surface, and an informal grass football area with goals.

It was installed in 2004 and since then two smaller items of equipment have been replaced, but the remainder of the equipment is 20 years old, Cumberland Council said.

The consultation started yesterday (April 9) and will continue until 5pm on April 30.

Residents can find out more about the proposals by picking up a consultation leaflet from Harraby Community Centre or by completing an online survey at www.cumberland.gov.uk/have-your-say.

Cllr Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council’s executive member for vibrant and healthy places, said: “We will be removing old play equipment and replacing it with brand new items which best suit the needs of residents.

“We will ensure that high-quality equipment (including replacement seating) is provided, the design is robust and that the refurbished facility will be long-lasting.

“We’re keen to hear from local residents, schools and communities on what play equipment they’d like installed.

“This an opportunity to have your say.”

Work on the improvements will take place in the summer, the council said.
